<itunes:summary>Just got back from Victoria Social Media Bootcamp #SMCV11 and thought I would put down my impressions while they are still fresh.nbsp; While I have been to many Internet marketing conferences, this is my first one dedicated solely to social media.nbsp; But my attendance at other Internet marketing conferences gives me a good base for comparison.

First, the good points:

1.nbsp; Networking - Events like this are a great way to network to find potential partners, clients and even friends who share the same interests you do.nbsp; Of course, with networking, your success depends on how much you put into it.nbsp; But, with over 650 people at the event and lots of time for networking, no one could say there weren't enough people to talk to.nbsp; One thing I did find is that there were a LOT of web designers, Internet marketers and social media consultants there.nbsp; So a great opportunity to network, but not as many actual potential clients as I would have thought.

I give it a 9 out of 10 for networking opportunities - only because there were less potential clients there and more social media professionals than I would have thought.

2.nbsp; Genius Bar: This was a great idea.nbsp; A room of tables set aside with a facilitator on each getting discussions going on a range of social media topics.nbsp; Great fun and the room doubled as a place to work on your computer if you weren't at a session at the time.

10 out of 10 for the Genius Bar

3.nbsp; Organization: Lots of volunteers so I didn't find lineup problems.nbsp; People were very helpful.nbsp; Sessions seemed to run on time.nbsp; Very well put together.

9 out of 10 for organization and volunteers.

4.nbsp; Food: I slipped out early for lunch on day 1, but I heard it was very slow getting food and there was not much of it.nbsp; Day 2 was very well organized with predone bags that had a sandwich, apple, drink and cookies, marked as tuna, chicken, beef, vegetarian, etc.nbsp; Very efficient.

7 out of 10 based on the day 1 comments from others about food

Now the not-so-good:

5.nbsp; Speakers - I think they may missed the mark on their audience this year.nbsp; Social Media has grown up in the last year and thenbsp; place was filled with people who are very active in social media and who were looking for more "meat" in their presentations.nbsp; Many of the speakers ended up "preaching to the converted" and didn't adjust their sessions for this.

I went to one session where the session was a non-social media session with the words "for social media" tacked on to the description.nbsp; While she is likely a good presenter in her field, she did not take the time to show us how what she was teaching would help us with social media.nbsp; And I got the impression she was barely using social media herself.

Another presentation I went to marked "advanced" was actually at a beginner+ level.nbsp; Some useful stuff and I did enjoy it but not at the high level I had hoped.

The keynote speakers were great quality speakers with some useful info, but once again, I think it was for a less social media savvy audience, so I took away less than I anticipated.

I did not see every speaker of course, but these were the impressions from the ones I did see.nbsp; And many others I talked to who had been do different sessions had the same impressions as me.nbsp; So I am not alone in this feeling.

The program lacked any descriptions of the sessions which would have been helpful in choosing which sessions to attend.nbsp; I understand this is likely due to lack of space in the printed program, but perhaps a description could have been put on the doors for the sessions.nbsp; Also, color coding as to the level of each session -nbsp; beginner, intermediate, advanced, would have been useful.

I didn't see the Hootsuite presentation as I was regularly using it so thought I would try to "power up" areas I was not using yet.nbsp; Chatted with the Hootsuite presenter in th...</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Sitting in my hotel room, thinking about what I want to accomplish at the Victoria Social Media Boot Camp tomorrow.

I have been to a number of Internet marketing conferences, but never one solely for Social Media, so I am excited.nbsp; My main goal is to see what other Internet marketers are doing so I can learn more to be able to share these ideas and success with my community of students, clients, blog and social media followers.

I may also find some strategic partnerships amongst these fellow Internet marketers.nbsp; And if I do get a client or two, that would be a bonus.

But first and foremost, I want to come away with ideas to help the people I reach.

I'll update you all as to how the conference goes.</itunes:summary>
